Emmet Ray, a very eccentric swing guitarist, goes to the boardwalk with a musician friend to pick up women. They find two girls, one of whom is a mute named Hattie. Emmet ends up with Hattie, to his dismay at first, but he eventually warms up to her and invites her back to his hotel room. She proves to be more physically outgoing than he expects, and when he plays his guitar for her, she falls in love. This is a combination of several scenes.
