Ralph and Marian are married. He is a doctor, she is a painter; they have a “nice” life in a comfortable home in Los Angeles, but their relationship is distant and lacks intimacy and compassion. They’re expecting guests for dinner, people they barely know. Yesterday, Ralph walked in on Marian painting her sister Sherri nude and was dismissed by the two women. Today Ralph lost a patient, a small boy who had been hit by a car. Tonight the thin veneer of their daily life snaps.
