The Beverly Hills Playhouse has offered acting classes in Los Angeles at the Skylight Theatre complex for over 30 years. The curriculum at the LA location mirrors our Beverly Hills location, with scene study classes at all levels - Advanced, Intermediate, and Orientation. These classes are taught by professionals who have studied at the Playhouse for up to three decades - Allen Barton, Art Cohan, Michael Petted, Alex Mann, and Leila Vatan.
The BHP is well known for Milton Katselas’ unique approach, which addresses Acting, Attitude, and Administration. Alumni of the school include George Clooney, Michele Pfeiffer, Jim Carrey, and many more. To learn more about the BHP acting classes, check out our home page and read our FAQ.
The Skylight Theatre complex is located in the center of Los Feliz Village, an artistic neighborhood with a cool vibe, and an eclectic mix of bars, cafes, and restaurants. Adjacent to the theatre on Vermont is the Skylight Bookstore, one of the few remaining independent bookstores in Los Angeles. The Skylight Bookstore regularly hosts signings and other events, and boasts an extensive selection of plays and books on the study of acting. Neighboring the bookstore is an independent movie theatre showing bargain screenings of the latest films.
BHP students form “Acting Administration” groups to support each other in their daily career building actions. These groups often meet before class at local restaurants like Fred 62 and Palermo’s. Other students can be found reading and working on scenes at Juicy Burger, Figaro Bistro, and House of Pies, or just hanging out in the green room or breezeway of the Skylight Theatre.
After class, students can often be found hanging out in the back room at The Dresden, discussing the scenes and critiques from class. One of the cornerstones of the BHP is a strong, supportive community of actors, both in person and online via our internal social network, BHP Connect.
The Skylight Theatre Complex is also home to the Skylight Theatre Company. The STC’s mission is to develop and produce new works, introduce plays new to Los Angeles, and educate and nurture the artists who create them. The STC produces more than ten new plays each season.
The Beverly Hills Playhouse is proud to call the Los Feliz Village home to our acting classes in Los Angeles. The area is a three block oasis where our students can get away from the daily grind to focus on the study of the craft of acting, and the development of their careers.
