Carlito and Gail have become live-in lovers since his release from jail. He is living well and seems to be making a success out of his nightclub. He doesn’t want his business or himself to be corrupted by crime; he wants to go completely straight, but it’s a struggle. His lawyer, Dave, is trying to get him involved in a scheme to break a mobster client out of jail. Gail sees the danger even if she doesn’t understand all the details. They are returning from a night in the club.
